Myanmar’s Oway migrates to Google Cloud in six weeks, cuts costs with Virtusa
Virtusa migrated Oway Group to Google Cloud as part of a six-week project to ensure the Myanmar-based travel and ride-hailing startup remained agile during Covid-19.
In response to the pandemic’s challenging impact on travel and the need to immediately reduce expenses, Oway partnered with Virtusa to leverage Google Cloud’s Migrate for Compute Engine, migrating its entire infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in the process.
Beginning in early April, the migration was completed in less than six weeks, and the business has now realized a 20% reduction in total infrastructure costs.
Headquartered in Yangon, Oway was established in 2012 to enhance Myanmar’s tourism and transport ecosystem through digital solutions. At the heart of these efforts is the 2016 launch of Oway Ride, an app-based taxi service that provides GPS-based travel for short-distance travelers in the Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, Pyin Oo Lwin and Mawlamyine regions. business and transportation solutions.
