Malaysia’s panda caretaker reunites with ‘princesses’ on trip to China
KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 – Malaysian panda keeper Akmal Hadi Samsuddin is filled with joy to be reunited with Nuan Nuan, the female giant panda cub he raised in Malaysia. She then returned to China in November 2017.
On April 25, he traveled all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Nanjing Ziqing Lake Wildlife World in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, where Nuannuan now lives.
“Nuan Nuan” is the first cub of giant pandas “Xingxing” and “Liangliang”. It arrived in Malaysia in 2014 and grew up under the careful care of Akma National Zoo.
Nuan Nuan holds a special place in Akma’s heart and is called his “princess”.

On April 27, Akma also went to Sichuan Wolong China Giant Panda Park (also known as Shenshuping Giant Panda Base) in northwest Chengdu to visit another “princess” Sheng Yi.
Sheng Yi was born on May 31, 2021, and her sister Yiyi was born on January 14, 2018. She returned to China in August last year.
Akma was unable to see Yiyi because she had not yet participated in a public exhibition since her return.
Despite missing their meeting, Akmal looks forward to future visits and the chance to reconnect with Yiyi.
Akmal posted on Facebook that he was relieved to finally be reunited with the giant panda.
“Indeed, I am grateful to be able to set foot in the land of the Great Wall, meet and escape the longing for my beloved giant panda cubs.
“I don’t want Nuannuan, Yiyi, and Sheng Zun to remember me as their guardian since they were born, and come to me when called. Although I know from their eyes that we are still a family.
“I can see that they are in very good condition now, and they are placed in a very comfortable place and are well and perfectly cared for by guardians who love Nuannuan, Yiyi and Shengyi as much as we love Nuannuan, Yiyi and Shengyi. enough.
“I bring a big hope from Malaysia to China to strengthen the family relationship between our Malaysian panda breeders and Chinese panda breeders, who share the same goals and objectives.
“A big thank you to all the Panda fans who were so kind to us during our stay in China,” he wrote.
