Depending on your plan and status, the following coverage upgrades are available.
“Cancel For Any Reason” Insurance
“Cancel for any reason” coverage allows you to cancel your trip for whatever reason. When you purchase this insurance upgrade for a Premier or Preferred plan, you can choose to have 50% or 75% of your travel reimbursed. To be eligible to make a claim, you must cancel your trip at least 48 hours before departure.
“Interrupted for any reason” coverage
The Interruption For Any Reason upgrade allows you to shorten your trip for reasons beyond those listed in the Interruption Benefit Policy. It is only available on the Premier plan. This “trip interruption for any reason” travel insurance upgrade will reimburse you for 50% of the cost of your trip as long as you start traveling at least 48 hours.
destination wedding
This upgrade allows you to receive a trip cancellation benefit if the bride or groom of the wedding you’re attending cancels the wedding after you purchase travel insurance. If you are the bride or groom, no coverage is provided, and you cannot purchase this upgrade with the economy plan.
adventure sports
This add-on expands the coverage to include safaris, bungee jumping, hang gliding and other extreme sports and activities.
Key Coverages for Medical Expenses Insurance
If you purchase this upgrade through the Preferred plan, benefits provided under Emergency Accident and Sickness Medical Expenses coverage will be considered primary and not secondary. Premier plans include primary coverage.
Rental car damage and theft
This upgrade includes collision damage and rental vehicle theft.
Medical Evacuation and Preferred Hospital
With this upgrade, you can double your medical evacuation coverage for Economy and Preferred plans. It also includes transfer to a hospital of your choice.
pet care
This upgrade reimburses vet bills if your dog or cat travels with you and needs care. It also adds cancellation and interruption coverage for the death or critical illness of your dog or cat.
Pet care insurance can cover your pet’s transportation home if you have an accident or become ill while traveling. It also covers pet boarding if your travel is delayed for reasons covered by the travel insurance plan.
Primary Coverage, Higher Baggage Allowance
This add-on doubles your luggage coverage limit and makes your luggage insurance primary rather than secondary.
security/terrorism
This optional upgrade helps cover the cost of evacuations for personal safety or political reasons. It also allows you to cancel your trip if a terrorist event (including cyber terrorism) occurs at your destination within a certain time frame after you purchase the policy. It also adds interruption benefits for civil disturbances or disturbances lasting more than 12 hours.
This coverage can also cover ransom and crisis response costs if you are kidnapped in certain circumstances. Keep in mind that some countries are exempt from kidnapping, such as Afghanistan and Somalia. Excluded countries are listed in the policy.
vacation rental
Vacation rental upgrades offer break benefits if your rental is not cleared, overbooked, or keys are lost.
Academics, Athletic Events, Volunteer and Missions Programs
This add-on benefit allows you to cancel your trip if, after purchasing the policy, you need to take an exam scheduled during your trip. It also adds cancellation coverage if you or your traveling companions or family need to attend a theater or sporting event on a certain date during your trip. This coverage provides a cancellation benefit if the festival, sporting event, concert, or volunteer activity that is the sole reason for your travel is canceled.
hunting and fishing
Hunting and fishing upgrades include cancellations due to government restrictions. It also provides coverage if you need to cancel your trip due to illness or injury to you, your traveling companions, family members, or your tour guide. Additionally, this fringe benefit covers lost, damaged or stolen equipment as well as reimbursement for rental equipment.
