The central coastal city of Da Nang is expected to be the most popular tourist destination for Vietnamese this summer, with 43 percent of respondents planning a holiday there, according to a recent survey.
In second place is Sapa in the northern highlands with 33 percent, followed by Nha Trang on the central coast with 30 percent, according to Milieu Insight, a consumer research firm focused on Southeast Asia.
The company surveyed 2,500 people in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia about their travel plans for this summer.
Nearly two-thirds of Vietnamese said they planned to take three to four days off this summer, according to the survey.
The travel issues that Vietnamese tourists are most concerned about are weather, price and various dining places.
Beach holidays are popular in the region, with beautiful beach destinations ranking first in each country: Boracay in the Philippines, Bali in Indonesia, Sabah in Malaysia and Phi Phi Island in Thailand.
During the recent five-day holiday to celebrate Reunification Day and Labor Day, Vietnam’s tourism revenue reached VND24 trillion (US$1.02 billion), up 9 percent year-on-year.
However, many tourists complain of overcrowding, traffic jams and overpriced services ruining their holidays.
