US eases Sri Lanka travel warning ‘reconsider travel’
The United States has relaxed the travel ban on Sri Lanka from “Level 4: Do not travel” to “Level 3: Reconsider travel” from July 6.
This Sri Lanka Travel Advisory is a periodic revision issued by the US Department of State under the Level 3 category.
“While the US travel advisory for Sri Lanka was issued due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the threat of terrorism is also included by default,” Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defense said in a press release issued today (July 8).
Consistent with the assessment of intelligence sources, Sri Lankan Defense Minister General Kamal Gunaratne said there were no reports of terrorist activity or such related threats, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the US embassy in Colombo clarified on Twitter on Wednesday (July 7) that the update of the Sri Lanka travel warning from level 4 to level 3 was solely due to the current COVID-19 situation in the country and the threat of terrorism The threat level has not changed.
