Travelex Travel Basic Plan
This affordable plan offers pre-departure and post-departure coverage with ample limits. Benefits include trip cancellation, trip delay, trip interruption, emergency evacuation, emergency medical coverage, and baggage and personal effects coverage.
Your U.S. health plan may offer little or no coverage abroad, and other countries do not accept medical insurance, which is why medical insurance for travel abroad is critical.
If you are traveling domestically, your U.S. health insurance may apply if you are injured or ill. Some travel insurance companies require you to file a claim with your health insurance company first. For the basic plan, medical expense coverage is primary, which means claims are first filed with Travelex, not your health insurance company.
If you purchase the Travel Basic plan within 15 days of your first trip payment, trip cancellation coverage includes financial default (if your airline, cruise line, or travel agency goes bankrupt) and cancellation for business reasons (if you need to work) the dates of your travel.
The Travel Basic plan does not provide “cancellation for any reason” coverage.
Travelex Travel Select Program
Travel Select is Travelex’s highest rated plan according to Forbes Advisors’ ratings of the best travel insurance. It includes all the coverage in the base plan, plus higher coverage amounts and optional add-ons. The Travel Select plan also includes sports equipment delay coverage.
Another benefit of the Travel Select plan is that you have the option to request a pre-existing condition exclusion waiver if you develop a pre-existing condition during your trip that you would like to be covered for. You can apply for these waivers for free through Travel Select if you purchase travel insurance within 15 days of your initial trip payment.
The Travel Select plan also offers optional upgrades not available on the base plan:

Plus, children under 17 are free with the Travel Select program as long as their travel costs don’t exceed yours.
Travelex Travel USA Program
Travelex’s Travel America program is designed for domestic travelers and groups traveling for up to 14 days.
It includes all the standard types of travel insurance, basic and select plans, but the coverage amounts vary. Most notably, USVisitors has caps on the maximum amount for trip cancellations and trip interruptions.
The Travel America plan provides shared benefits for up to eight travelers, which means the plan’s coverage limits are shared among all people listed on the policy.
It also includes $1,000 in emergency pet medical expenses, plus a $50 deductible. Plus, it offers $10,000 of “return of pet” insurance that helps cover your pet’s transportation costs if you get sick or injured during your trip and are unable to travel.
You can get coverage for pre-existing medical conditions if you purchase your Travel America insurance plan within three days of your last travel payment. You can only get this pre-existing conditions coverage if you are physically able to travel when you purchase the policy.
