Tourism Malaysia packaging development director Shahrin Mokhtar said this was a continuation of a successful campaign involving domestic tourists last year.
He said the Durian Tourism 2023 package will be extended to several states, namely Johor, Pahang, Selangor, Perak, Kedah and Perlis. Last year, it only covered Penang.
“Tourism Malaysia has taken the initiative to promote the Durian Tourism 2023 package in foreign countries such as China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Brunei and Singapore, so that tourists from these countries can visit Malaysia.
“At the same time, we can also show how high-quality our durians are compared to other countries’ (produced) durians, and our durians have their own uniqueness,” he told reporters after the launch of the packaging at Happy Fruit Tangkak today.
Also present were Tangkak District Council Chairman Ongku Mohd Zafrin Ongku Mohd Zaman and Happy Fruit Tangkak owner Zheng Zhiren.
Meanwhile, Shahrin also encouraged industry players involved in the parcel to diversify their activities such as durian picking; enjoying other local fruits and different types of beverages such as ginger, tempeh making process, experiencing village life and offering leisure sports .
“This year’s durian tourism package, which runs from today (May 30) to August 31, is a collaboration with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and 13 local tour operators.
“There are 18 enticing packages to choose from, ranging from durian buffet at RM50 per person, to three-day, two-night packages with prices starting from RM1,740 per person,” he said.
Therefore, he hopes that by offering these packages, it will be able to introduce second-tier destinations, thereby affecting local economic activities.
In addition, he said it will also be able to raise awareness about environmental protection under Strategy 5 of the National Tourism Policy 2020-2030, which aims to strengthen commitment to sustainable tourism.
