Tourism Malaysia participates in ITB Berlin 2023


In conjunction with ITB Berlin 2023, a new video ad for Tourism Malaysia’s latest campaign, “Soul of Malaysia”, was released alongside its newly released 3 main booklets, Malaysia Travel Guide, Nature & Adventure and Islands & Beaches, in German.

Berlin– Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) through its agencies Tourism Malaysia participate again International Tourism Exchange Berlin (ITB), running until Thursday, March 9, 2023. The three-day event took place in the city of Messe Berlin with participation from 125 countries around the world. This year marks Tourism Malaysia’s 50th participation since it first joined in 1972.

The Malaysian delegation to ITB Berlin this year included 7 state tourism boards, 15 tour operators, 15 hotels and resorts, and 3 tourism-related service agencies. A total of 68 participants representing 40 organizations joined Tourism Malaysia.Malaysian delegation led by Datuk Mohd Zamri Mat ZainMOTAC Deputy Secretary General (Tourism) Accompanied by Datuk Zainuddin Abdul WahaDirector of Tourism Malaysia and Datuk Dr. Amah Abdul GabbahSenior Director of International Promotion (Americas/Europe/Oceania), Tourism Malaysia.

Datuk Mohd Zhamlimazan, who presided over the Malaysia Pavilion today, said, “ITB continues to be one of the best platforms for Malaysian tourism players to meet outbound agents and airlines from Germany and Europe, where we can share the latest information on Malaysia tourism products and new tourist attractions to further revitalize the tourism industry.” He also highlighted that Malaysia’s unique ecotourism destinations and community-based tourism are of great interest to the European market.

Since the full reopening of international borders, Malaysia has received a total of 10.07 million tourists and RM28.2 billion (6.1 billion euros) in tourism receipts in 2022, surpassing its initial target of 9.2 million international tourists. By 2023, Malaysia aims to welcome 16.1 million international tourists and generate tourism receipts of RM49.2 billion (EUR 10.5 billion).

In particular, in December 2022, Malaysia recorded 10,764 German tourist arrivals, a significant increase of 31.3% compared to 8,197 in December 2019. Malaysia received a total of 57,780 German tourists in 2022, compared to 130,221 in 2019. . Tourism Malaysia is optimistic to witness exponential growth in the German market as in-air connectivity and promotions intensify in 2023.
