Tourism Malaysia on mission in Indonesia
JAKARTA, 4th August 2023: Tourism Malaysia started sending a sales mission to Indonesia this week, visiting the three major cities of Jakarta, Medan and Balikpapan to showcase its latest travel products and packages.
From July 30 to August 5, a series of business-to-business meetings were held between Malaysian and Indonesian tourism industry players in partnership with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA). Key participants in the sales mission included Sarawak Tourism Board, Malaysia Healthcare Tourism Council (MHTC), Sepang International Circuit (SIC), representatives of Malaysian company My Second Home (MM2H), Malaysian Homestay Entrepreneurs Association, 15 travel companies, 3 product operators, 6 hotel operators and Batik Air.
The sales mission to Jakarta kicked off the Sepang MotoGP campaign, which introduced motorsport-themed travel packages at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to specialist outbound travel agencies in the Indonesian capital.
The Sepang MotoGP package costs MYR 1,717 (IDR 5,900,000) for two days and one night and MYR 2,328 (IDR 7,200,000) for four nights. Last year, TX Travel, which has been a partner of Tourism Malaysia since 2018, successfully sold 1,500 racing tour packages to Indonesian car fans. The Petronas Grand Prix will be held at the Sepang Circuit from November 10-12.
In addition to the B2B meeting, the Sales Mission hosted a dinner attended by representatives of Indonesian tourism associations such as the Association of Indonesian Travel Agents (ASTINDO), the Association of Indonesian Tour Operators (ASITA) and the Indonesian Association of Tour Actors (ASTINDO). ASPPI).
The tour sales mission to Indonesia kicked off in Balikpapan, followed by meetings with industry players in Medan, before the Malaysian delegation traveled to Jakarta.
Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Dr Amar Abdul Gapal said the sales mission is important as Indonesia remains one of the most important markets for Malaysia’s tourism industry.
“In 2022, Malaysia received 1.481 million Indonesian tourists, the second highest after Singapore. This is in line with the current inbound trend in 2023 as we received 704,147 Indonesian tourists in the first quarter of this year,” he concluded.
