JATA explains the outline of Tourism EXPO Japan 2023

On April 12, JATA (Japan Association of Travel Agents) explained the outline of the world’s largest tourism event “JAPAN TRAVEL EXPO 2023 Osaka/Kansai”.

The exhibition will last for four days from October 26th to 29th, the first two days are industry days, and the second half of the year is a public open day. The venue is Osaka International Exhibition Center (1-5-102, Nankokita, Suminoe-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), and the organizers are Nikkanshin (Japan Tourism Promotion Association), JATA, and JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization).

The theme of this year’s event is “Meet the Future Travel Festival”. This exhibition will be held as an “event leading up to Osaka Kansai Expo 2025” as an “excellent opportunity to spread the image of future travel” after the corona disaster.

The target number of visitors is 150,000 person-times (48,000 person-times per industry day, 102,000 person-times per day in general), and 1,245 target booths, accounting for about 73% of the total booths, of which 80% are domestic and 60% are overseas. Exhibitor application deadline is the end of May. The number of visitors at the last Osaka event (2019) was 151,099.

News today that the government’s plan to bid for an IR (Integrated Resort) including a casino in Osaka is in the final stages of approval has yet to be confirmed.

Manabu Hayasaka, Promotion Office Manager at Tourism EXPO Japan, explained the significance of the event, saying, “From Osaka, we will show that tourism is fully restarting domestically and internationally.”

Advance registration is required for free admission on industry days, 800 yen in advance on general days, and 1,300 yen on the day. In addition to selling on the Tourism EXPO Japan website this time, tickets at convenience stores will also resume sales.

The keynote speech will be held from 13:15 to 13:45 on the first day, and it is said that the content will be based on the theme of Osaka Kansai Expo 2025. The TEJ Tourism Ministers Meeting will also be held on the first day from 14:20 to 16:20. About 15 to 20 countries’ tourism ministers, representatives of UNTWO, WTTC, PATA, ATTA, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism or the Director of the Tourism Agency are scheduled to attend, and the keynote speech and tourism minister’ meeting will be broadcast live on YouTube.

Recruitment for the 7th Japan Travel Awards has started, and each award will be presented on the first day of the Japan Travel Expo. The application period is from April 3 to June 30.
