Tourism Board welcomes Indonesian tourism industry representatives to latest international tourism event – IAG
The Macau Government Tourist Office continues to strive to promote Macau to the world, especially in Southeast Asia. Last week, it hosted 19 Indonesian tourism professionals to experience Macau’s tourism products. It will also participate in the ASTINDO travel fair in Jakarta on August 31 and set up a booth there.
Based on visitor arrival figures for the first six months of 2023, Indonesia ranks fifth among Macau’s top ten source markets and second among international source markets, with a total of 58,110 Indonesian visitors during the period.
Indonesian tourism staff spent five days in Macau, visiting the Macau Grand Prix Museum, experiencing a sightseeing bus tour, visiting Macau’s integrated resort facilities and tasting various delicacies.
The delegation also held an exchange meeting with representatives of Macau’s tourism industry, including franchisees, to learn more about each other’s tourism resources, products and industry information, and to explore further business opportunities for cooperation.
According to the tourism board, Indonesia is the second largest source of international tourists. With the gradual increase of direct flights between Macau and Southeast Asia, MGTO continues to explore multiple tourist source markets in Southeast Asia.
Before the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, Indonesia accounted for only 0.4% of the total number of tourist arrivals in Macau with 169,957 people, ranking ninth among the global tourist source markets. The figure will edge up to 0.5% in 2023 due to lower arrivals from Japan and Malaysia.
The Tourism Bureau stated that in addition to participating in this month’s ASTINDO travel fair, it also recently traveled to Malaysia to participate in the MITM travel fair held in Kuala Lumpur from July 28 to 30, hosted by the Chinese Travel Agency Association.
MGTO has recently hosted a delegation from the Japanese tourism industry and organized tourism exhibitions in Portugal, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Mainland China.
