The combination of stunning landscapes, picturesque waterways and the unique culture of the region make Kashmir a truly fascinating destination. Here are the top 5 places to visit in Kashmir:
Top 5 places to visit in 4 days in Kashmir
- Srinagar: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is famous for its picturesque Dal Lake, where you can enjoy shikara rides and stay on houseboats. Mughal gardens such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh offer exquisite floral displays and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
- Gulmarg: Known as the “Flower Meadow”, Gulmarg is a popular mountain summer and ski resort. The Gulmarg Cable Car is one of the highest in the world and offers breathtaking views of the snow and ice. In summer, the meadows transform into a vibrant wildflower haven.
- Pahagam: Pahagam, often called the “Valley of the Shepherds”, is another charming hill station surrounded by lush forests, babbling rivers and verdant meadows. It is the base for the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. The Lidder River and Betaab Valley are must-see attractions here.
- Sonamarg: Translated as “Golden Meadows”, Sonnamarg is a stunning valley known for its alpine meadows, pristine lakes and stunning glaciers. It’s a great starting point for hikes to places like Thajiwas Glacier and Zoji La Pass.
- Zero Point/Zozila Pass: At an altitude of approximately 11,575 feet (3,528 meters), the Zojila Pass is an amazing mountain pass that connects UT Ladakh with UT Jammu and Kashmir. Often referred to as “Point Zero”, the area around the Zojira Pass is characterized by its high-altitude landscapes, offering visitors an almost surreal experience. The region’s stark beauty, barren terrain and towering mountains recall the harsh yet fascinating nature of the Himalayas.
I have explored all these places and believe me, you will love every place I have mentioned in this article.
