A Virgin Australia flight had to be diverted after three passengers were taken away by police after they were drunk and vaped on a flight to Bali.

The men were on board a flight from Brisbane to Denpasar, Indonesia, on Friday, with crew concerned about their “escalating acts of sabotage”.

A 42-year-old man and two 20-year-old men were allegedly drunk during the flight, according to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), and staff feared passengers sitting in the exit row would not be able to help. Assistance in case of emergency.

The crew asked the men to move their seats, but the men allegedly initially refused.

When they finally moved their seats, their disorderly behavior increased as they drank the duty-free alcohol they had brought with them.

“A passenger was also allegedly caught vaping in his seat,” AFP said.

Concerned that the gang’s behavior would continue to deteriorate, the captain decided to divert the flight to Darwin.

AFP officials greeted the plane on arrival at 4pm on Friday and escorted the three men off the plane “without incident”.

The flight then continued to Denpasar.

Police spoke to the Queensland man and released them, but they could be fined.

Darwin Airport Commander-in-Chief Greg Davies said disruptive behavior would not be tolerated and “an airport is not a nightclub”.

“We know most passengers are doing the right thing and they should not have their travel interrupted or feel unsafe because of someone’s bad behaviour,” he said.

“We have zero tolerance for abusive and aggressive behavior at airports and on board aircraft.”
