The ‘ultimate’ bond holiday will cost £2.5m

High-end travel company packages locations and experiences tied to spy movie franchise

London: What would a James Bond superfan’s dream holiday look like? Sliding down the hill from the iconic chase scene in Specter? Drinking an ice-cold martini (shaken, not stirred, apparently) in London?

How about a private training session with Daniel Craig’s stand-in, or a yacht with actor Carol Ashby admiring the sights of Monaco’s Côte d’Azur?Octopus, a scene of killing)? Driving an Aston Martin with the Bond special effects director?

Thanks to a new partnership between luxury travel company Black Tomato and 007 production company Eon, it’s possible to buy a cinematic dream vacation.

There are only 60 spots. Five-night trips start at £15,000 per person. Or for £60,000 (US$74,000 or THB 2.54 million), you can take a 12-night trip called The Mission – a glamorous jet flight around European Bond locations including London, Paris, Monaco, Lake Como , Venice and the Austrian Alps. About 30 percent of the space has already sold, according to Black Tomato.

Black Tomato co-founder Tom Marchant said the trip was the culmination of years of close collaboration with Eon, including actors, stuntmen, producers, location coordinators and Bond archivists.

Black Tomato obsesses over every detail, including what Bond eats (beluga caviar, stone crab, Steak Diane) and drinks (martinis, and lots of Bollinger champagne) to create bespoke dinners.

The company also set up access to the filming locations—private entrances to the ski area made famous in “Spectre”—and arranged for interactions with the actors, such as a poker game with Andreas Daniel, who Casino Royale.

Marchant has a track record of bringing beloved literary and film franchises to life through travel; he said Eon approached him for the project because of his company’s success in recreating Agatha Christie’s journey.

“What we’re doing is approaching 007 like never before,” Marchant said.

I got to experience an adventure firsthand at the launch event at the Corinthia Hotel in London. Before speaking with Chris Cobbold, the special effects supervisor on eight Bond films, I sat in an elaborate Aston Martin complete with a spy-like eject button.

He shows how he sunk a Venetian building Casino Royale. It involved scale miniatures, a huge water tank and a drilling rig in the Pinewood workshop. He said Eva Green was great in her watery death scene and had nothing but praise for Daniel Craig.

Corbould can take part in an Aston Martin driving experience, talk blockbuster special effects, or take a helicopter tour filmed over an Alpine resort ghost. Less adventurous guests can join him for lunch at ice Q restaurant, which is Madeleine Swann’s (Lea Seydoux’s) clinic in the film.

It’s the closest fans can get to a secret agent without traveling to a movie set or joining His Majesty’s Secret Service – thankfully, no Bond villains are close behind.
