The number of tourists to the Philippines will exceed 2 million in 2023

The Department of Tourism announced Saturday that the Philippines has surpassed its goal of reaching 2 million international tourist arrivals by 2022.

According to the latest figures from the Department of Tourism (DOT), the country received a total of 2,002,304 international tourist arrivals between January 1 and May 12, 2023.

This figure is already higher than the target of 1.7 million foreign tourists for the whole of 2022.

Tourism Secretary Cristina García Frasco expressed optimism about the outlook for the Philippine tourism industry.

We are on the cusp of a huge success in Philippine tourism, Frasco said.

South Korea was the largest source market for the Philippines, accounting for nearly a quarter of the total number of tourists with 487,502 arrivals (24.35%).

The United States came in second with 352,894 (17.62%), followed by Australia (102,494) (5.12%), Canada (98,593) (4.92%) and Japan (97,329 (4.86%)).

From January to April 2023, the Department of Transportation recorded inbound tourist revenue of 168.52 billion pesos, an increase of 782.59% over the 19.1 billion pesos of tourism revenue in the same period last year.
