The 8 Best Walks and Walks in London
One of London’s best walks, the Parkland Walk will take you through north London neighborhoods you might otherwise miss – Crouch End, Highgate and Muswell Hill – whether you’re a tourist or native.
While there are many city views along the trail (one spot, overlooking the picturesque whitewashed houses of Muswell Hill, is especially charming in the summer sun) – you’ll also get lost in nature, returning to the to the past.
The tree-lined two and a half mile walk follows the green tracks of a former railway line that ran between Finsbury Park and Ally Pally in the late 1800s. You’ll traverse old tracks on the way, but unfortunately you won’t be able to explore any of the abandoned platforms. For safety reasons you will pass through a disused Highgate entrance which is closed to the public.
You won’t be walking the Parkland Trail alone on the weekends, but you’ll find peace and tranquility very different from the noisy, high-pressure (and polluted) capital. Also on weekends, walkers can explore wildlife trails: Added walking sections to protect “environmentally sensitive” flora and fauna, requiring support from volunteers to maintain order.
