Dang Sy Manh, general manager of Vietnam Railways, which is in charge of the railway line, said the flower road will feature specific flowers representing the 34 provinces and cities it passes through.

He said that many lines of the North-South Railway have been rated as the most beautiful lines in the world, and many stations have important historical and cultural values.

The person in charge said that the Huadao, with the theme of “one representative flower for each route, and each stop is a destination”, is expected to become a tourist attraction, helping tourists easily identify the areas they pass by the flowers they see.

Many families who live near the railway line have planted flowers along the line.

The Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company is also building flower paths along the railway; this is also the plan of the Vietnam Railway Company.

Architect Khuong Van Muoi, former president of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Architects, said he agrees with the plan.

He said that in places with wider corridors, trees should be planted in large areas, which can not only create urban green space, but also make the landscape more beautiful.

Dwarf trees that bloom all year round, such as moss roses, false lemons, and roses, should be planted in narrow places.

Each area, such as wards and communes, should have only one or two types of flowers for a consistent array of colors without clutter. When there are uniformly designed green spaces, beautiful landscapes are created, he said.

To ensure consistency, it is necessary to conduct studies on stations, roads, barriers and corridors on both sides of the railway, he said.

According to online newspaper Dân trí (Intellectual), many residents of Ho Chi Minh City also expressed concerns about the care of plants along the flower path and the safety risks of the railway, as many young people may flock to the tracks to take pictures.

Nguyen Van Hong, 66, a resident of the Phu Nhuan district where the railway passes, said people near him have been volunteering to clean up the area and plant flowers in front of their homes near the railway line.

Earlier, the district government bought and planted some here, but they all died. Residents buy similar plants with their own money and grow them.

“If the area is empty, people will throw their trash anyway,” Hong said.

Phan Van Chien, 51, works as a railway crossing guard in Phu Nhuan district and has witnessed many changes in the residential areas where the railway passes over the past 27 years.

“In the past, cars or motorcycles were usually parked very close to the tracks,” he said.

“Before the train arrives, staff like me have to come and move the vehicles out of the way to make sure they don’t get too close to the tracks. At that time, the house is also very close to the tracks.”

Later, he said the city had set the boundaries of the rail safety corridor, so there was more room for trees.

Qian said guards like him couldn’t take care of all the flowers and bonsai planted along the routes they were responsible for.

Many homes plant very tall trees, or have them very close to the runway. The owners had to go into the tracks to care for the tree, which put them at risk.

In addition, in places with beautiful trees, such as Li Wenxi Street in District 9 of Furun District, young people often gather on the railway tracks to take pictures, which is a violation of railway traffic safety.
