TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said Thai tourists earned 360 billion baht from nearly 100 million domestic trips, while international tourists earned 599 million baht from 10.56 million trips. The country received 1.97 million overseas tourists last month, most of them from Malaysia, followed by China, India, South Korea and Laos, he said.

Thapanee Kiatphaiboon, the TAT’s deputy governor for domestic markets, expressed optimism for the rest of the year. She said the TAT wanted to welcome at least 25 million international tourists over the next seven months, with a surge in visitor numbers expected in the final three months of the year.

According to Deputy Premier TAT, the group now plans to launch new campaigns in the second half of the year, focusing on subcultural themes such as stargazing routes and travel for animal lovers.

TAT also assists provinces to showcase their unique arts, culture and tourist attractions to attract tourists to reduce overcrowding in major tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. The agency has now set a target of 30-35 million international visitors in 2024. (NNT)
