Taiwanese tech companies eye investment opportunities in the Philippines Taiwan News


TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese companies in the electronics manufacturing industry are considering major investments in the Philippines, according to a statement issued by the Philippine Board of Investment (BOI) on Thursday (May 26).


While the BOI did not specify which companies were considering investing, they said they were in talks with at least eight companies. According to the Philippine News Agency, a Taiwanese delegation visited Manila on March 6 and May 16 to discuss possible partnerships and investments.

Taiwanese companies involved in electronics, semiconductor and industrial machinery manufacturing are all considering projects in the Philippines, the report said.


“These companies are engaged in manufacturing circuit boards, high-precision terminals for memory card connectors, and stamping of metal parts. Their visit aims to explore incentives for the Philippine semiconductor industry, assess local market demand, and network with existing IC packaging and testing companies ,” the BOI press release said.


According to the Philippine News Agency, in 2022, Taiwan will be the tenth largest foreign investor in the Philippine economy, with foreign direct investment from Taiwan exceeding US$21 million.


The Philippine subsidiary of Taiwanese company Sercomm will expand its production facility at the Camere Industrial Park in Kalamba, south of Manila, which will create 5,000 new jobs, Investment Monitor reported. The company makes telecommunications products and broadband internet equipment.
