TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s booth at the Manila Travel Expo, the largest travel fair in the Philippines, drew a large audience on Friday.

The event, held at the Manila SMX Convention Center in Pasay, featured 400 booths, including those representing Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Guam and Hong Kong, according to the Central News Agency.

The Taiwan area of the exhibition is dominated by the color-changing Taipei 101 model and the orange slogan “Taiwan, the Heart of Asia”.

The themes hoping to lure tourists to Taiwan are visits to small villages, Hakka textiles, tasting red bean ice cream, and virtual and augmented reality experiences from the country’s high-tech industries.

A band played popular music such as rock and jazz using traditional local instruments, showcasing Taiwan’s creativity, CNA reported.

The Philippines, close to Taiwan, is one of the key elements of the government’s new southbound policy. Last year, 419,000 Filipinos traveled to Taiwan without a visa, a year-on-year increase of 44.13%. Taiwanese officials in Manila said they were targeting 500,000 Filipino tourists this year.

The Travel Tour Expo is open until Sunday, February 10th.
