Sri Lanka Tourism to conduct three-city roadshow in South India


Sri Lanka Tourism continues to expand friendly bilateral and cultural ties with its Indian counterparts through a series of roadshows in major Indian cities from 24-28 April 2023. The first roadshow will be held in Chennai on April 24, followed by Cochin on April 26 and finally in Bengaluru on April 28.

Sri Lanka saw a significant increase in tourist arrivals, with India leading the way and holding on to first place. The campaign also focused on promoting a myriad of travel experiences while focusing on attracting bookings from potential travelers and highlighting the positive message that Sri Lanka is open for leisure, business and MICE tourism.

The target audience for these roadshows will be tour operators, media, key influencers, corporates, industry associations and key tourism stakeholders in India who are capable of accepting that Sri Lanka is not only one of the most beautiful countries but also a destination and The products are varied, but also safe.

A delegation of more than 30 Sri Lankan travel agencies and hotels will take part in the event, accompanied by Hon. Tourism Minister Harin Fernando, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Board Chairman Chalaka Gajabahu and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Chairman Thisum Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka Shirani Herth, Junior Manager and Malkanthi Welikla, Marketing Manager, Tourism Promotion Board (SLTPB), Lanka Convention Bureau, Sri Lanka.

Many industry stakeholders have backed the effort, including SriLankan Airlines and Indigo. Each roadshow will consist of a B2B session, facilitating a great deal of discussion, followed by an evening networking event, which will also help improve business partnerships.

Celebrity participation such as cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya will add a touch of glamor to these events. A dance troupe flown in especially for the event will showcase Sri Lanka’s rich performing arts heritage.

During the roadshow, Hon. The tourism minister is expected to meet with several high-profile business leaders, tourism stakeholders and corporates, as well as accept multiple media interviews from India’s leading media outlets.

To date, India has attracted more than 80,000 tourists to the country and these numbers are expected to double by 2023. Hence, these roadshows will add more value to create a positive mindset towards Sri Lanka and its diversity of attractions, cultural values ​​and tourism opportunities to get Indian tourists to their destination.
