Sri Lanka opens up quarantine-free ‘bubble’ tourism – Business Traveler
Sri Lanka allows foreigners to enter a “biobubble” for the first two weeks after arrival.
The Southeast Asian country has waived quarantine requirements for leisure travelers since January, allowing them to leave their hotel rooms with some restrictions.
This includes staying at an approved Covid-19 safe property, purchasing insurance, getting regular Covid-19 testing and avoiding interaction with locals, According to the CNBC report.
While travelers are not allowed to leave the hotel during the initial “bio-bubble,” they can visit approved tourist attractions during designated times. Access to attractions requires independent transportation arranged through a travel agency or hotel.
Sri Lankan authorities have certified 98 coronavirus-safe hotels, including those in the capital Colombo and the resort town of Bentota, to host foreign travelers for the first two weeks. All hotel facilities, such as the beach and swimming pool, are available for use.
A doctor will also be on site to monitor the health of staff and guests, According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism.
Since the country reopened its borders on Jan. 21, more than 3,800 tourists have taken advantage of the opportunity, Sri Lanka Tourism Board chairman Kimarli Fernando told CNBC.
