South Korea’s growing number of ‘active seniors’ traveling abroad
Seoul, February. 23 (Korea Business Network) – With the increasing number of active seniors, more Koreans over 60 are traveling abroad than before.
Recent data from Mode Tour shows that senior South Koreans who traveled abroad accounted for 18.5 percent of all outbound tourists last year, an increase of nearly 1 percentage point.
The number of visitors to South Korea over the age of 60 has been rising steadily over the past few years, with the figure jumping from 14.8 percent in 2014 to 17.7 percent in 2016.
Popular tourist destinations include neighboring countries such as Japan and China, and Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Thailand.
In 2017, about 40% of senior tourists went to Southeast Asian countries, while 24% of senior tourists went to Japan.
