Singapore Travel Guide: The Perfect Lion City in 24 Hours – YP

This week, we’re taking you to Singapore – a city known for its veritable concrete jungle, lined with modern skyscrapers. In just 24 hours, you can explore every aspect of this spectacular city, from the sky to the sea to the jungle.

Of course, what makes this place such a popular destination has to be the irresistible variety of food it offers, so you can bet we have a long list of foods you must stop along the way.

Start the day with a plate of kaya toast. Served with soft-boiled eggs and soy sauce, nothing beats a cup of kaya butter and a cup of hot milk tea in the morning. There are many places that serve this breakfast combo, but we recommend Ya Kun Kaya Toast, which is a popular franchise so you can find branches anywhere in the city.

Afterwards, take the MRT to Harbourfront Station, and from there take the Sentosa Express to Sentosa Island. This holiday island has plenty to see for a few days, but if you only have time for one, we recommend the Oceanarium, home to more than 1,000 marine animals, including endangered scalloped hammerhead and silvertip sharks.

Before leaving the island, you must try the Skyline Luge. To get there, hop aboard the Sentosa Skyway, a chairlift that takes you up the mountain for stunning ocean views. From the top, you can pull back the vehicle, powered solely by gravity. If this is your first time riding a sled, don’t worry; lessons begin with an instructor showing you how to handle the sled.

For lunch, go to Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. There are 10 branches around Singapore, but if you go to the one closest to Chinatown MRT station, you can drop by after your meal. The bak kut teh soup is a delicious combination of herbs and pepper (they provide free refills!), which goes perfectly with the soft and tender pork slices.

Before dark, head to Gardens by the Bay (Raffles Place MRT station) – yes, the gorgeous wedding venue in Crazy Rich Asians. Enter the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, where you can admire the beauty of nature and take over a hundred stunning photos. After sunset, walk to Supertree Grove and marvel at the avatar-like man-made forest that lights up to music during Garden Rhapsody (7:45pm, 8:45pm).

After the show, head straight to Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre, also known as Telok Ayer Market, which is about a 20-minute walk from the garden. If you haven’t tried seafood in Singapore, you’re in for a treat. You can’t go wrong with the chilli crab, cereal prawns or sambal stingray. Better yet, order all three! The beauty of a food center like this is that you can eat like a king without breaking the bank.
