Singapore, Japan among top 10 safest countries in the world

Whether you’re traveling alone or with your family, the last thing you want to worry about is your safety. Visiting safe destinations is essential, and you must check out our list of the safest countries in the world 2023 before planning your trip.

The report by the Institute for Economics and Peace is called the Global Peace Index. This is an annual ranking of the world’s safest destinations, “calculated using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from respected sources, and measures the state of peace in three areas: social safety and security levels, sustained domestic and international Level and Militarization of Conflict”, covering 99.7% of the world’s population.

The GPI assigns countries a rank between 1 and 5. The lower the score, the more peaceful the country.

According to the list, Iceland is the safest country in the world, with Singapore in sixth place. Japan is another Asian country in the top 10 at 9th, while Bhutan and Malaysia also make it into the top 20 at 17th and 19th respectively.

Iceland has topped the list since 2008, thanks to low crime rates, low military spending and few international conflicts. Denmark ranks second with a fairly low corruption rate. In third place is Ireland, which has risen five places since last year.

Singapore’s sixth ranking is mainly due to its low crime rate, international and domestic conflicts, and terrorism. Japan ranks ninth for having less terrorism, less political instability, fewer international conflicts and a relatively low incidence of violence.
