Continuing the brand’s commitment to thoughtful development, Rosewood Hotels® will open its first hotel in Japan in 2024.The brand is pleased to announce the appointment of Noriko Nakayama as the managing director of Rosewood Hotels and Resorts

As Rosewood enters new markets, Noriko’s extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry will be at the heart of the opening.

Noriko started her career over 19 years ago as an experienced hotelier with a strong sales and revenue background. She has previously held positions at well-known hotel brands such as Mandarin Oriental, Park Hyatt and Grand Hyatt, most recently as General Manager of The Kitano Hotel. Throughout her career, Noriko has mastered all areas of the hospitality experience, from operations to wellness. She also has a strong passion for environmentalism, earning a master’s degree in environmental science from Yale University and bringing her expertise in sustainability.

We are all delighted to have her help as we lead the brand into Japan,” said Hoss Vetry, Vice President of Operations, Asia Pacific. “Not only will Noriko’s hospitality background be a key factor in supporting the opening of Rosewood Miyako, but her environmental background will also serve as an important guide for us in prioritizing sustainability throughout the opening.”

Rosewood Miyakojima will be located on Mikayo Island in the Okinawa archipelago, known for miles of soft white sand and endless views of turquoise seas, offering a space for endless water adventures, including snorkeling at Yabiji, the largest expanse of Japan coral reefs and dive in underwater caves teeming with marine life. The resort’s 55 villa accommodations will feature private pools, landscaped gardens and sweeping ocean views. Conceived by Netherlands-based Studio Piet Boon, the architecture and interior design work seamlessly to immerse guests in their natural surroundings and express harmony with the island through the extensive use of local materials. Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei Inc. will provide local architectural expertise and help realize the design vision.

The resort’s four restaurants and bars will feature a relaxed beachside concept, showcasing fresh seafood, prized island-raised beef, locally distilled spirits and craft beers. With stunning ocean views as the backdrop, the resort’s indoor and outdoor event venues will host unforgettable destination weddings and private celebrations. On-site recreational facilities will include the standalone Rosewood Explorers Club, Rosewood’s program for young guests designed to inspire creativity and imagination, and the Asaya Spa, which will offer treatment rooms set in private gardens. Indoor and outdoor spa facilities, and a range of services influenced by local healing traditions.

Rosewood Miyako marks Rosewood’s first opening in Japan and joins Rosewood’s expanding collection of ultra-luxury hotels and resorts in Asia, which includes Rosewood Phnom Penh, Rosewood Beijing, Rosewood Guangzhou, Rosewood Sanya, Rosewood Hong Kong, Rosewood Luang Prabang, Rosewood Bangkok and Rosewood Phuket. The brand is continuing to invest in the market, with a curated pipeline of future developments, including six new properties planned for Greater China, and its first property in Vietnam.
