summarize
Countries around the world are easing border measures related to COVID-19, with the number of overseas travelers rising rapidly. In October 2022, the Japanese government will open its borders to foreign tourists, including lifting the personal travel ban for foreigners and exempting short-term stay visas. Many foreigners travel to Japan. In particular, the rapid growth in the number of Korean tourists has led to the recovery of the Japanese inbound market. This article focuses on South Korea as an important market for Japan’s inbound policy, and summarizes the trend of Korean outbound travel in light of the impact of the COVID-19 disaster.
The survey shows that Koreans’ overseas travel trends include increased interest in independent travel that prioritizes COVID-19 safety and regulatory status, rational travel that emphasizes cost-effectiveness, short-distance travel, and impromptu travel. Travel refers to travel that heals the body and mind. Based on these five trends, we propose elements that should be considered to promote future inbound tourism.
