Provides safety information for Hokkaido travelers in English

A government-sponsored website is providing English-language safety information for travelers in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost region, which was hit by a massive earthquake on Sept. 6.

The Hokkaido travel safety information website is part of an experiment by the Hokkaido Regional Transportation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The portal provides Google Translate for its content, including links to English-language websites for major public transport facilities such as airports, railways and bus companies. The site also has links to U.S., South Korean, Russian and Australian consulates.

Users can activate the English translation function by pulling down the “Select English” menu in the upper left corner of the home page.
