Orilus lost to Indonesia 0-1
Olympus’ hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Qatar and qualification for the Paris Olympics have been boosted after losing 1-0 to Indonesia at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium. Hope took a hit.
Tony Vidmar made a change in the 0-0 stalemate with Jordan, with Jacob Italiano and Lucas Mauragis deployed at right-back and Lucas Mauragis respectively. Left back position.
Keegan Jelacic comes into the midfield while the front three has a new look, with Mohamed Toure leading the way, Adrian Segecic and Nishan Velu Pillai (Nishan Velupillay) partner.
After Indonesia made a bright start, Australia were awarded a penalty for a handball on Mohamed Toure’s curling shot after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) intervened.
After seeing replays, the referee needed no further convincing and pointed out the spot after the ball hit Koeman Tegu’s arm. The 20-year-old stepped up but his penalty was saved in the 25th minute by Hernando Alli, who guessed the right way down the left.
In the subsequent corner kick, Toure’s header missed the crossbar and was blocked again.
Five minutes later, the PSG striker, on loan from his parent club Reims, suffered another setback when he cut inside and fired wide from 10 yards, ending an exciting game.

On the stroke of half-time, Nathan Tjoe-A-On’s deflected shot flew into the path of Komang Teguh, who headed home from close range to more than make up for the penalty. Give in and the Olyroos will rue those wasted opportunities.
Seven minutes into the second quarter, Velupillai broke through to the baseline and his cutback found Toure. However, the ball was behind the former Adelaide United player and he was unable to make enough physical contact to cause trouble for the goalkeeper.
Just after the hour mark, Vidmar turned to the bench, summoning Lachlan Brooke and Jordi Varadon as the Aussies continued to push for an equalizer.
With Australia still trailing, Vidmar made three more attacking changes using the remaining substitutes. In the 75th minute, Alou, Garang Kuhl and Nikolas Milanovic came on respectively, and Toure, Velupile and Jack Holman were replaced respectively.
Lachlan Brook’s shot was saved as play was suspended several times but Indonesia fought to hold on for their first World Cup win before 11 minutes of injury time.
But the Aussies were unable to break through a tenacious Indonesian side, putting their dreams of advancing to the knockout rounds and keeping their Paris Olympic dreams alive in doubt.
Australia, who have one point after two games and face Qatar in the early hours of Monday morning (AEST), need to win and hope for a successful result.
