Visiting Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in Abu Dhabi that visas for travel to Japan have become easier, and Etihad Airways’ announcement of a new flight to Osaka will boost air traffic between the two countries.
UAE citizens with ordinary passports do not need to obtain a visit visa before traveling to Japan, while expats can easily apply for an e-visa, eliminating the need to visit an embassy. Additionally, national carrier Etihad Airways will operate five weekly flights to Osaka from 1 October.
Speaking at the UAE-Japan Business Forum on his first visit to the UAE, Kishida noted that visa norms for travel to Japan have been relaxed. “With the introduction of visa-free measures for UAE passport holders last year and Etihad Airways’ new flight to Kansai International Airport this year, traffic between the two countries is expected to increase,” Kishida said.
Frequent flights to Japan also enhance trade, tourism and business ties. National airlines Etihad and Emirates fly more than 20 weekly flights to Japan.
Etihad Airways offers seven weekly flights to Tokyo, while Emirates has daily flights to Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Osaka. Both airlines plan to expand their operations to meet the growing demand for travel between the two countries.
In a statement, the Prime Minister wished to welcome more tourists from the UAE to discover and visit Japan to enjoy its authentic cuisine, breathtaking scenery in four different seasons and experience riding the bullet train.
The Japanese prime minister is on a three-day, three-country tour of the Middle East and will wrap up his regional tour by heading to Doha on Tuesday.
