MANILA – Travel booking app Airbnb said Thursday that more and more Chinese tourists are looking to travel to the Philippines.
Airbnb said in a statement that searches for the Philippines by Chinese tourists were up 10 percent year-on-year.
“Since China reopened for cross-border travel, Chinese tourists have increasingly expressed interest in visiting more destinations,” the company said.
Airbnb also said Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, has seen a strong rebound in both international and domestic tourist arrivals.
In the Philippines, the number of nights booked through Airbnb will more than double in 2022 compared to 2020.
The Philippines was also named the top travel destination for locals in 2022.
Amanpreet Bajaj, general manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan at Airbnb, said: “Domestic tourism has proven to be resilient in times of crisis and is also the one that has a more direct and positive impact on the local economy. choose.”
Growth in the second quarter of 2023 was spurred by higher tourism-related spending and business investment, Socioeconomic Planning Minister Arsenio Balisacan said earlier.
