Mainland Chinese prepare to return to Bali


Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno announced on Saturday, November 19, 2022 that mainland Chinese tourists are expected to return to Indonesia in 2023. Before the global pandemic, Chinese tourists were one of the main sources of foreign tourists to the country.

Sandiaga, quoted from Antara State News Agency, It was confirmed that several Chinese airlines had applied to resume flights to Indonesia. The tourism minister sees the return of Chinese tourists as a positive development. Also, the flight applications submitted by Chinese airlines is a positive sign that the Chinese are ready to restore Indonesia as the most popular holiday destination.

Sandiaga expects at least 255,700 Chinese tourists to visit Indonesia by 2023. In 2019 and before the outbreak of the global pandemic, the number of Chinese tourists to Indonesia reached 2.07 million. The total number of Chinese tourists is second only to Malaysians with 2.98 million.

Currently, Indonesia’s largest source of foreign tourists is Australia, followed by Singapore, Malaysia, India and the United Kingdom

Sandiaga said the Chinese government’s easing of travel restrictions will boost upcoming flights and have a major impact on rebuilding Indonesia’s tourism industry and creating jobs.
