Yves Saint Laurent was born in Oran, Algeria in 1936. At the age of 17, he went to Paris and visited the editorial office of Vogue to show his sketches. He was introduced to Christian Dior and worked for him until his death in 1957. After that, he took over as the artistic director of “Christian Dior” and released a series called “Traverse Line” to great acclaim. In 1960, he introduced the revolutionary “beat look”, which brought couture to street style, but was unpopular for not being suitable for “Dior”. A year later, he was drafted into battle. During his career, Saint Laurent received numerous awards, including the French Legion of Honor in 1985. At the 1998 World Cup in France, he presented 300 models in front of 80,000 football fans and television cameras from 170 countries. In January 2002, at the age of 65, he announced his retirement. The reason is that he is fed up with the commercialization of the fashion industry. “I don’t identify with fashion today, which has become a window dressing. Elegance and beauty have been relegated elsewhere.” Two weeks later, at the opening of his final haute couture collection, when his muse Catherine Deneuve Saint Laurent bowed tearfully as he sang for the last time.
