The study ranked budget and satisfaction levels separately, calculating a value for money index for 27 destinations. An index with a higher “+” sign indicates better value for money. In 2023, the average total expenditure of Koreans on overseas travel exceeded 2.57 million won ($1,929). , more than 2.23 million won (US$1,637) in the South Pacific region and more than 1.44 million won in Asia.

South Korean media analysts said the mutual increase in travel with Japan is the result of more shuttle diplomacy between the two leaders and strengthening ties between the two countries.

Korean research group Embrain documented changes in attitudes in the country between 2020 and 2022. In addition, compared with the 55% who “will not go to Japan no matter how cheap it is” in 2020, the number of people who refuse to travel to Japan in 2022 has decreased by nearly 30%.

The pro-Japanese shift is evident in recent news, with Korean owners of Japanese restaurants in Seoul even mimicking their dining experience in Osaka with Japanese menus and signage.
