Kathmandu City stipulates that filming, short films and advertisements are charged at Basantapur Durbar Square

There is a fee to film a movie at Basantapur Durbar Square.

According to Kathmandu, foreigners have to pay 55,000 rupiah a day if they want to film at the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nepalese, on the other hand, have to pay Rs 20,000 per day.

Likewise, foreigners have to pay Rs 25,000 a day and Nepalese Rs 10,000 a day to shoot short films, documentaries and music videos in the region.

According to the city government, foreigners are charged Rs 60,000 a day to shoot advertising videos.

The city made the arrangement when it introduced its property tax for the 2023/24 financial year. The municipal government has issued a notice to all districts to implement the property tax system from July 17.
