June 2023 Travel Restrictions Update

[ad_1]

The summer travel season for domestic and international travel is now in full swing. With travel restrictions virtually non-existent around the world, travel to some destinations has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. Below are more details on travel restrictions for June 2023.

US travel restrictions

June marks the first full month that the United States is fully open to international tourists. Vaccine authorization for international travel for non-US residents and permanent residents expires on May 11, 2023.

As of mid-May, the country no longer requires age-eligible international visitors to be fully vaccinated to enter the United States for tourism or to visit relatives. The United States was one of the last countries to waive this entry requirement. There is also no mandatory pre-arrival testing requirement.

Canadian travel restrictions

There are no barriers to international travel between the US and Canada. U.S. citizens can visit Canada without restriction by air, land or sea. Additionally, Canadian citizens no longer need the current Covid-19 vaccine to enter the U.S., as transit requirements are similar to those before the pandemic.

Caribbean travel restrictions

The Caribbean has no major pandemic-related travel restrictions, as the last few islands with vaccine or testing requirements lifted them in April 2023.

Latin America travel restrictions

There are no travel restrictions from vaccinated Central or South American countries. Additionally, the number of countries that require unvaccinated tourists to take a negative test prior to arrival has been reduced to two countries:

Brazil and Chile lifted their testing policies in May 2023.

European travel restrictions

Europe is wide open to travel, with the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continuing to hamper travel to either destination. Unfortunately, as demand increases, more travel miles may be required to fly to Europe.

China travel restrictions

In March 2023, China opened its international borders for the first time in three years. Since the initial reopening, China has gradually eased entry requirements.

The country started by issuing work and student visas, but now issues tourist visas from most international destinations. Individuals must apply for a travel visa, which may take seven business days to process. Additionally, travelers will still need to have a negative test prior to arrival to enter. However, as of April 29, 2023, rapid antigen tests, which are cheaper and faster than PCR tests, will be available.

It is also possible to travel to Hong Kong or Macau instead of mainland China. Hong Kong has no pre-entry testing requirements, but Macau’s testing policy is similar to that of mainland China.

Japan travel restrictions

Japan no longer requires proof of vaccinations or a negative pre-entry test result to enter. This travel easement goes into effect on April 29, 2023. Tourists also do not require entry visas.

Indonesia travel restrictions

One exotic destination that still has strict entry requirements is Indonesia. The country requires all international visitors over the age of 18 to be fully vaccinated or have proof of recent recovery. Bali can be difficult due to its distance from the US and current travel restrictions.

Philippines travel restrictions

The Philippines requires unvaccinated tourists to undergo a negative test prior to arrival. There are no testing guidelines for fully vaccinated guests.

Oceania travel restrictions

Australia and New Zealand opened up to travel without testing or vaccine requirements.

Africa travel restrictions

Most African countries are fully open to vaccinated and unvaccinated tourists. Popular tourist destinations such as Egypt, Morocco, South Africa and Tanzania are not subject to restrictions. Several countries in central and west Africa continue to require pre-arrival testing for unvaccinated tourists.

summarize

This is an excellent month for travel as there are minimal travel restrictions. Additionally, countries with testing requirements continue to ease restrictions to make them more accessible.
