July 2023 Travel Restrictions Update
July is the peak time for summer travel, as families and individuals head out to visit family or sightsee before school and work arrangements resume. There are few travel restrictions for both domestic and international travel, which has increased travel demand to many destinations.
US travel restrictions
There are no travel restrictions within the United States. Additionally, the coronavirus vaccination mandate for foreign tourists ends on May 11, 2023. Therefore, tourists can enter the United States by car, plane or boat without restriction. However, the number of overseas visitors remains about 26% below May 2019 levels, according to the latest monthly survey by the U.S. Travel Association.
Canadian travel restrictions
The land border between Canada and the United States is fully open in both directions, as entry requirements are similar to pre-pandemic regulations requiring a valid travel passport.
Mexico travel restrictions
There are no travel restrictions between Mexico and the United States, and land border checkpoints were fully opened for leisure travel in May.
Latin America travel restrictions
Travel restrictions to Central and South America are minimal and continue to be gradually eased to pre-pandemic conditions. So you can easily enjoy a tropical vacation near the equator or the winter weather of a South American country like Argentina.
There are no restrictions for fully vaccinated people. However, two countries still require unvaccinated people to undergo a negative test prior to arrival:
Caribbean travel restrictions
There are no travel restrictions to popular Caribbean destinations accessible by air or cruise ship. Individual countries may have unique entry requirements.
European travel restrictions
There are no travel restrictions to Europe. Travel to the African continent and the UK remained strong as many people flew into this destination. European cruises are also popular and have minimum passenger limits.
As has been the case for more than a year, travel to Russia and Ukraine has been hampered by armed conflict.
Indonesia travel restrictions
For many travelers, the ability to visit one of the most exotic tropical destinations is once again on the table. Indonesia expires remaining pandemic-related entry requirements, such as the need for current coronavirus vaccinations, on June 9, 2023.
The island nation is home to many popular locations, including Bali. In addition, tourists will no longer be required to undergo pre-arrival testing, and the requirement for public masks has been lifted. Local regulations may still apply.
Indonesia’s travel entry requirements are now similar to many popular Asian tourist destinations, such as Japan and Thailand.
Philippines travel restrictions
The Philippines has stricter entry requirements for tourists. Unvaccinated guests must test negative prior to arrival and undergo a rapid antigen test upon arrival.
China travel restrictions
China fully opened up to tourism in March 2023 for the first time in three years, although leisure travel to the destination remains challenging. Prospective travelers must obtain entry visas before entering the mainland, Hong Kong or Macau.
Additionally, in most cases, a negative pre-arrival test result is required.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of State issued a travel advisory on June 30, 2023, advising individuals to reconsider travel to the mainland. Potential risks in the memo include “arbitrary enforcement of local laws, including those related to exit bans, and the risk of wrongful detention.”
Oceania travel restrictions
There are no restrictions on visiting Australia or New Zealand. This is the winter tourist season in this part of the Southern Hemisphere. There is less travel to both destinations at this time of year, which can be a boon for some tourists and global explorers.
Africa travel restrictions
Travel restrictions on the African continent vary by country. Fully vaccinated travelers can enter most countries without testing or quarantine.
For about nine countries in central and western Africa, unvaccinated tourists must obtain negative pre-arrival test results.
Regardless of vaccination status, most tourists can go to Egypt, Morocco and South Africa, the three most popular tourist destinations in Africa.
summarize
Leisure tourism is fully open in most places, making it easy for tourists to explore the world. Travelers can book flights, cruises and excursions with confidence. But it’s still worth the effort to check local and national travel guides to be fully prepared for your destination.
