Indonesia welcomes Chinese tourists without restrictions

Indonesia will join several Southeast Asian countries to start accepting Chinese tourists again after lifting travel restrictions from the country.

This is despite the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in China.

Entry rules for Chinese tourists will be the same as for other tourists. Visitors entering Indonesia must present proof of complete vaccinations, and PCR or antigen testing are no longer required upon arrival.

“There has been a wave of COVID-19 cases in other countries like China. Of course, we are still monitoring. The government is always doing epidemiological surveillance at points of entry like airports to prevent cases coming in from other countries,” says COVID-19 Handling Work said group spokesman Wiku Adisasmito.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno claimed that the ministry remains vigilant, especially when it comes to health. Even so, the target of 250,000 Chinese tourists could be achieved, he added.

Foreign tourists from China have a great influence on visiting Indonesia. In 2019, 2 million tourists arrived from the country, the second highest number of tourists in Indonesia.

“I heard from the health minister that our immunity level is over 98%. Let’s develop the Chinese market with enthusiasm, but we focus on quality, sustainability, longer stays, and increased spending on the local economy . We have to make sure we welcome Chinese tourists with an open mind and a cautious approach,” the minister continued.

Chinese airlines have started requesting direct flights from Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing to Indonesia, especially Jakarta and Bali.

“While waiting for Garuda to be ready, we also hope that Lion Air and Batik can meet the requirements for direct flights from China. Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines have all requested more flights so that the target can be achieved in the first quarter,” he said. .

According to a copy from Vietnam Express, Cambodia is another country ready to receive Chinese tourists again. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia hopes that Chinese tourists will come to Cambodia as soon as possible.

Before the pandemic, Cambodia received more than 2 million Chinese tourists a year, meaning nearly 40 percent of international tourists were Chinese tourists.

Chinese tourists are not obliged to do any testing, they can come like normal tourists,” He said.

At the same time, many other countries have also begun to tighten entry restrictions on Chinese tourists. Countries such as the US, France, UK, Australia, India, Canada, Japan, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, South Korea, Morocco and Qatar have implemented mandatory pre-departure COVID-19 testing for Chinese travelers.
