The Maldives announced on Tuesday that it is preparing to open its borders to the South Asian country from July 15.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Saleh announced the government’s decision, adding that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision will be regularly reviewed between July 1 and 15.

The news came as a relief to Indians holding work visas and waiting to travel abroad. If you plan to travel to the Maldives after 15 July, a negative RT-PCR test is mandatory.
Tourists entering Maldives must take COVID-19 test
All visitors are required to have a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test (PCR test) before entering the Maldives.
“#Maldives will be re-issuing tourist visas on arrival to visitors from South Asia starting July 15th. Tourists will need a negative #PCR result to enter the Maldives. Further details will be announced accordingly,” the tweet read.
Details on the SOP are still pending. Meanwhile, travel agencies in the Maldives have started inviting Indian tourists through tweets.
