・Affected by the new crown epidemic, the number of inbound tourists hit a record high of 31.88 million in 2019, and will drop sharply to 246,000 in 2021, less than 1/100 of the previous year. As the global epidemic comes to an end, the number will increase significantly to 8.64 million by the end of May 2023. It is believed that inbound demand will continue to recover*1.

・In the “Basic Plan for National Tourism Promotion”*2 decided by the Japanese government in March 2023, the goal is to restore inbound demand after 2019 in 2025. In addition, in May 2023, we will decide on the “New Era Inbound Expansion Action Plan”*3, which will not only attract tourists, but also strive to revitalize the economy by encouraging business people visiting Japan to travel to rural areas. will also continue.

・On the other hand, the tourist information in Japan is different from other countries, and the categories and popular spots vary depending on the country or region. Local governments and enterprises need to formulate, verify and improve detailed tourism strategies according to the characteristics of each country and region. In addition, there is a greater demand for objective information on the flow and dynamics of inbound tourists.

・This service is available through Navitime Japan’s route search and multilingual travel information application “Japan Travel by NAVITIME” (https://www.navitime.co.jp/pcstorage/html/japan_travel/english/). Based on inbound GPS data and through attribute questionnaires obtained with the user’s consent, the service can analyze the flow and dynamics of inbound tourists in 20 countries and regions.

・Using GPS positioning information, narrow grid (125m) and facility size can be analyzed, and inbound flow and dynamics can be analyzed in detail. For example, it is possible to design optimal routes for each area and facility based on the difference in visit dynamics between Japanese and foreign tourists, and to set optimal tour routes by nationality in tourist attractions that provide multilingual guidance. Do.

・Similar to the intuitive operation of the Japanese people flow big data analysis tool “KDDI Location Analyzer” (hereinafter referred to as “KLA”), it is used by many local governments and corporate customers, and is evaluated as easy to operate using UI/UX. Local governments and businesses equipped to use KLA can immediately perform inbound analytics without having to learn anything special about how to do it.

As an initial demonstration of this service, we analyzed inbound tourism destinations in cooperation with Okinawa Prefecture, Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture, Hiroshima Prefecture Tourism Federation, and Kanazawa City in Ishikawa Prefecture. By using the service, it is possible to visualize and visualize the flow of people and the routes of inbound tourists by country, and it is evaluated that it can be used for the development and validation of evidence-based marketing and tourism measures by country.

Through this service, KDDI and Navitime Japan will contribute widely to measures for foreign tourists visiting Japan.

1. About this service

(1) Service Features

・It is a self-analysis tool that can be operated intuitively on the Internet. With the same operability as KLA, local governments and business leaders can analyze the flow and dynamics of inbound tourists by themselves.

・We used GPS-based location information data obtained from Navitime Japan’s inbound application and finer-grained attribute questionnaire information for each facility and 125m square grid cell. Compared with public statistical data with a long update cycle used in general regional marketing tools and location information data based on mobile phone base stations (the minimum analysis range is in kilometers), high-precision analysis can be performed.

・Since the minimum analysis area is 125 square meters per week, it is also possible to analyze inbound personnel and movement in specific areas and facility units. In addition, distribution analysis by administrative area and simultaneous analysis of six facilities that can be set arbitrarily are also possible. Analysis results can be downloaded as reports in Excel format or CSV format.

・By contracting and using the domestic version as a set, the flow and dynamics of Japanese living in Japan and foreigners visiting Japan can be checked together, and analysis of domestic tourists and inbound tourists can be integrated.
