Grand Theft Auto VI Encryption Rumors
Rumors have resurfaced that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI will feature cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens, fueling speculation among fans.
A post shared on Twitter suggests that GTA 6 will be a money-playing game, and that in-game items like cars and weapons will be NFTs.
GTA creator Rockstar Games has yet to weigh in on whether these claims are true, but there appears to be no solid evidence to support these rumors.
In November, the company cracked down on the use of cryptocurrencies in GTA and issued cease and desist letters to companies running public servers with blockchain integration — a blow to several companies developing games on the platform. It was a hit for game makers.
Given that GTA V has sold more than 180 million copies and generated a staggering $8 billion in revenue since its release in 2015, it seems unlikely that Rockstar will overhaul the franchise’s success formula, with the latest installment due out next year. or launch in 2025.
Of course, there may be elements of encryption, but not necessarily what the encryption brothers want. Rockstar Games is more likely to use cryptocurrencies as a joke in its games, Game Rant said.

STEPN integrates Apple Pay for its NFTs
Mobile money-making app STEPN is making it easier to buy NFTs for its games by adding an in-app Apple Pay payment option.
Users will be able to purchase SPARK credits using fiat currency, 10 Spark credits are equivalent to 1 USDC, which can then be used to purchase NFTs.
“It removes the need to connect a separate crypto wallet and simplifies the payment process, making our product more accessible than ever for our community,” STEPN said on Medium.
The problem is that buying the sneakers with fiat currency will be more expensive, which STEPN attributes to a “tax” on each in-app purchase.
Getting started has long been a challenge for wider adoption of Web3 games, and STEPN is no exception. Its onboarding process is cumbersome, and users must buy sneaker NFTs from the marketplace — figuring out which NFT is best for you is a task in itself, and then transferring it to the in-wallet app.
However, the company could have done more to simplify the onboarding process.
“Our integration with Apple Pay is just the beginning of our vision to make Web3 technology accessible to all,” it added.
Clash of Titans Dev Competition Returns for Season 2
MatchboxDAO is launching the second season of its Battle of Titans Web3 racing game this week.
Starting June 4th, development teams from over 60 Web3 companies, including Immutable, Starknet, and Fantom, will participate in a fully on-chain Mario Kart-style game.
Each car is a smart contract that must be programmed to reach the end of the track, taking into account attacking and defending other players with bananas, shells and shields.
The first edition of the game in January included teams from Ledger, Polygon, Near, Yield Guild Games, and more, with the development team from Uniswap emerging as the winner.
The new season will also add a community component where viewers can vote for their favorite team.

Captain Tsubasa Web3 Game Debuts Governance Token
Captain Tsubasa – Rivals, a soccer game based on the popular manga Captain Tsubasa, has launched a governance token.
Web3 companies Thirdverse Group and BLOCKSMITH&Co launched the game in January. Players can train characters from the comics and play against each other in competitions.
Shun Fujiyoshi, a game producer who is now the head of BLOCKSMITH&Co, said that various mechanisms have been developed to maintain the value of utility tokens.
“These measures include points for in-game consumption and mechanisms to control price fluctuations caused by speculative trading,” he said in a statement.
The original Tsubasa manga, created by Yoichi Takahashi in 1981, has sold 70 million copies in Japan alone. It has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Illuvium raises an additional $10 million in funding
Crypto venture capital firm Framework Ventures has invested $10 million in game studio Illuvium, which will be used to accelerate the development of Illuvium Universe.
Australia-based Illuvium said the fresh funding will give it a comfortable runway for its public beta launch and beyond.
It’s planning an upcoming public beta that includes its city builder Zero, open world Monster Hunter Overworld, and autobattle arena.
The company previously raised $5 million in a seed round backed by Framework Ventures in March 2021. It also made $72 million in an NFT land sale last June.
Hot topic: Collecting NFTs for a morsel of Thai chicken
In this installment, I caught a Web3 project in the wild.
Queuing for tickets to MahaNakhon, Thailand’s tallest skyscraper, a poster next to an ad for coffee and an emergency defibrillator caught my eye: Amazing Thailand NFTs Season 2. Travel to earn amazing expatriate NFTs.
Easily convinced, I downloaded the app.
In mid-April this year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched the second round of NFTs for its NFT tourism project that is being piloted. Using an app called YAK, tourists can check in for flights across the country and receive travel NFTs in return.
PokemonGo for backpackers and passport stamp lovers sounds appealing. The reality is a bit depressing.
Crypto folks won’t like how much personal information you have to enter to get set up. Not just an email, but your phone number and one-time password.
The app and I disagreed multiple times about whether I was within the required radius for the sites I visited. While the MahaNakhon NFT was obtained effortlessly, I somehow obtained Pattaya City and Phuket NFTs, even though I didn’t go to either.
The idea is that you “earn money” by getting discounts when you travel, depending on how many NFTs you get. In many cases, getting an offer seems to require purchasing other things, such as getting two free pieces of chicken if you spend more than 1,000 baht ($29) at a restaurant — a rare feat in a country where you can enjoy a good meal. A tough task out of five.
In fact, many of the offers don’t appear to be exclusive to NFT apps at all, and would work without them.
Now, apparently – although the poster doesn’t say so – the game is only supposed to run until the end of April, so maybe all the good offers are gone; I can’t be sure.
But the big question for me is how to remove the NFT from the app. They appear to be on the local chain of Thai cryptocurrency platform Bitkub. As far as I can tell, it requires creating a Bitkub account to move them, which in turn requires a Thai phone number to receive a one-time password.
Overall, it needs some tweaking, but I like the concept of being able to collect POAPs for the places I’ve visited as a tourist. The discounts suck, but aren’t really necessary: if you do get NFTs corresponding to the places you’ve visited, collecting for the sake of collecting is enough.
Please an improved global version would be nice.
