Your trip to Hong Kong is about to get even more interesting! From July 1, citizens and tourists can enjoy free transportation and entertainment services. The dedication is part of the celebration of the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Recreational and cultural facilities under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department are free to use. Some museums will also be free and open to the public. In addition, the Star Ferry and trams will also provide free rides. Read on to learn more!
Free entry to leisure venues and museums
Hong Kongers and tourists alike can use various facilities for free, including gymnasiums, swimming pools and wetland parks. At the same time, the permanent exhibitions of the Art Museum, Science Museum, Culture Museum and Space Museum (except for space theater performances) will also be free of charge. Tickets are not required for the special exhibitions of the M+ Museum and the seven exhibition halls of the Palace Museum.
Visitors do not need to make an appointment at M+ in advance. Visitors to the Forbidden City can book “free ordinary tickets” from 3:00 pm on June 21. Those who have purchased tickets can choose to refund. There are 12 historical buildings of the revitalization plan and guided tours of the wetland park free of charge.
Area community groups also join in the festivities by hosting various events. Some of these include painting competitions, Cantonese opera performances and light shows.
Hong Kong Travel: Enjoy Free Transportation
In addition to cultural centers, some government-operated transportation vehicles also provide free services. This includes the Star Ferry on the Central-Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai-Tsim Sha Tsui and Central-Hung Hom routes. Some water taxi routes also offer free and discounted rides. The trams will be free for five days starting July 1.
Birthdays on July 1 can take free rides on Tuen Mun-Tung Chung-Sha Lo Wan-Tai O and North Point-Kwun Tong-Kai Tak routes. From July 1st to 2nd, children under the age of 11 can take the 450 routes of KMB and Long Win Bus for free.
