Five Tips for Comfortable Vacation Air Travel
Thousands of travelers will be flying in the coming weeks as the holiday travel season approaches. To ensure every traveler has a great trip, travel experts share tips to make flying on vacation more comfortable.
As parts of the world prepare for one of the biggest travel seasons yet, here are some tips to avoid air travel fatigue and facilitate a comfortable journey:
1. Legroom:
Adequate leg room is very important when flying, so passengers are advised to store luggage in the overhead bin so that they can easily stretch their legs. Not all planes offer the same amount of legroom, but there are many websites where travelers can research the legroom of their seat before booking.
2. Neck and head support:
Sleeping on a plane can be difficult, but a quality neck pillow can make all the difference. However, not all pillows are created equal. When shopping for a travel pillow, air travelers should choose a travel pillow based on whether they sleep on their stomach, side or back. Passengers by the window can use the old trick of using the plane wall for support!
3. Lumbar support:
For many travel experts, lumbar supports are the unsung heroes of long-haul flights. Good lumbar support fills the gap between the lumbar spine and the seat and follows the natural inward curve of the lower back. An easy way to create this support is to place a pillow or rolled up blanket or jacket behind the lower back.
4. Keep your legs lifted:
Another way for passengers to relieve pressure on the lumbar spine is to sit with the knees slightly higher than the hips. Passengers are encouraged to use seats with footrests, while those without footrests can also easily use a carry-on bag for kicks!
5. Adequate recreation and/or tranquility:
Whether it’s a crying baby, chatty neighbors or the hum of an engine, loud noises can disrupt a peaceful flight. Pack a pair of noise-canceling headphones to listen to music or watch shows on your inflight entertainment system or personal device.
