Ex-SGAG influencer Maddy told to snip off eyelash extensions for Malaysian passport renewal, Singapore News
Dressing ourselves up for a passport photo is very common, especially since that photo will be stuck with us in our travel documents for many years.
One local influencer, Maddy Breteche-Lo, not only had to adopt a minimalist no-makeup look, she was even forced to cut off her eyelashes when she renewed her Malaysian passport, she said.
“This is my makeup look,” she said in a minute-long TikTok upload yesterday (October 31), while showing off her very bare makeup.
The Malaysian-French actress, who lives and works in Singapore and Malaysia, explained that she knew Malaysian immigration officials could be very particular and “weird” to people wearing makeup when taking passport photos.
However, as if even the bare minimum was a bit too much, the former SGAG star said she was told her lash extensions were too long.
With a pair of scissors in hand, she said angrily, “They looked at my face like your eyelashes are too long.”
solution? Come back another day or cut the lashes herself, which Bretche-Lo chose because she had to fly away the next day.
“They were like, ‘You cut yourself,’ and I was like, ‘And I cut,'” she recalls.
After “butchering” her extension, she went back to immigration officials to check if it was acceptable.
She can be heard imploring them in Malay: “No more cuts.”
While they did get the green light for her lashes, they had another problem, this time with her wearing contact lenses.
A police officer asked her to remove her glasses, but Breteche-Lo said she would not because she is nearsighted at about 1,200 degrees.
She later said she successfully renewed her passport within 30 minutes.
“It’s unheard of for Malaysia, well,” she said in surprise.
AsiaOne has contacted Breteche-Lo for further details.
According to the regulations of the Immigration Department of Malaysia, applicants are not allowed to wear eyeglasses or spectacles when taking pictures.
They should also wear dark clothing that covers the shoulders and chest. However, there is no mention of contact lenses or eyelash extensions.
