Danlao’s menu is one of the cleanest I’ve seen. It only offers 5 kinds of scrambled egg rice bowls—— Tomato (S$4.50), Luncheon Meat (S$5), Chicken Chop (S$6), barbecued pork (S$6) and Prawns (S$7). Long live For indecisive eaters like me!

Not sure if I should mix everything together or eat each element individually, I decided to start with a bite of stewed tomatoes.

This dish was so well done that it immediately reminded me of my mom’s scrambled home tomato and egg dish. The tomatoes were soft, warm, and comforting, with a slightly tangy yet delicious flavor that made me want to eat them again.

Not to mention, Egg Lao uses a combination of regular tomatoes and cherry tomatoes in the gravy, resulting in different textures—one that bursts in your mouth, while the other comes in big, tender chunks.

I was very excited to try the light aged scrambled eggs after hearing good reviews about it.

My biggest gripe with scrambled eggs is that it’s either too hard or too watery. Danlao’s rendition is perfectly in between – soft and silky without being too runny. I like that it is well seasoned on its own so that you can eat the eggs straight away.

This is what I imagined on top of avocado and toast, although the volume is a little thin because it’s more like a blanket than a pile of scrambled eggs.

I absolutely love how Mye Lao’s luncheon meat is cut into thick and large cubes. It’s nicely toasted on each side to give it a crispy texture, and its signature saltiness is a welcome addition to the bowl.

I moved to the second bowl: Chicken Chop (S$6).

Without any extra tomato gravy, I wondered if the rice would be too dry or plain. Thankfully, the light aged white rice was well cooked and had been drizzled with the sauce before being topped with scrambled eggs.

Chicken fried steak instantly reminds me of Xiaqing Street, with a salty and smoky taste. I smell the fragrance, Umami– Filled with shrimp paste, and other spices. What’s more, I really appreciate Myeng Lao’s generosity with the chicken chops—I counted 7 or 8 slices, ranging from chunky to purely crispy.

When dining here, the fried chicken cutlet is a must with Myeira’s homemade chilli oil. While slightly oilier than I’d like, the chilli oil added a wonderful toasty flavor to every bite. I think you can even mix the chilli directly into the rice for extra saltiness and spiciness!

This was probably the easiest meal I’ve ever had (I mean, it was rice with scrambled eggs), but every element was executed so well that it was hard to identify areas for improvement! Not to mention, everything is incredibly affordable, and you get a ton of boot.

Most of the time, it’s easy for me to pick a clear favorite.This time, I can’t – I love Dean’s tomato and lunch meat Because of its rich taste, appetizing, large meat, but Chicken Schnitzel What surprised me is Xiaqing Street– like a marinade.

Danlao is a place I would definitely recommend, especially if you’re looking for home cooked and comfort food to fill your tummy. My only suggestion? Include more veggies, maybe just to balance the carbs and protein.
