title:
Entertaining and Creative Muslimah
Islam and Leisure: Women Creatively Enjoying Leisure Time
gist:
Female literacy and employment rates have risen steadily in most countries of the world over the past few decades, including among Muslim women. Many of them simultaneously seek to understand Islam, their obligations as Muslims and their rights under Islamic law. Their participation in the economy means liquidity and surplus capital available for recreational activities. However, the question arises, what recreational activities are allowed and preferred by Muslim women? As a result, many women have launched tourism, hospitality and event management initiatives that cater to the aesthetics of educated urban Muslims. A travel blogger from Indonesia commenting on women’s mosque areas, an Instagram user from the UK normalizing the niqabi lifestyle while capturing beautiful picnics, and Pakistani women promoting travel into beautiful parts of Pakistan in a feminine and family-friendly way are a few that stand out example.
