Egyptian and South Korean Airplanes Fly Over the Pyramids of Giza

On Wednesday, the “Silver Star” aerobatic team of the Egyptian Air Force and the “Black Hawk” aerobatic team of the Korean Air Force performed an air show at the Giza Pyramid Plateau. The two teams conducted a variety of flight exercises, reflecting the friendly relations between the two countries.

Egyptian gazelle helicopters “Team Horus” and paratroopers also took part in the show. The event was witnessed by 800 guests and tourists at Pyramid Plateau.

This is the first air show ever to take place over the Giza Pyramids area. All security measures are taken to protect the archaeological area.

The governments of South Korea and Egypt have jointly prepared the show since May. This is another good opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Egypt and South Korea have strong ties in several fields, including the defense industry. An agreement to manufacture the K-9 was signed in February.

Hong Jin-wook, South Korea’s ambassador to Egypt, said both aerobatic teams performed well.

“It’s an honor to see these two teams performing together. They will continue to meet each other at different airshows, and today’s valuable experience will help them continue this relationship in the future,” he said.

The ambassador said that the air show and ongoing defense projects demonstrate the deep mutual trust between the two countries, which is the basis for the establishment of a comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries.

He also emphasized that the momentum of this cooperation has benefited from high-level visits by the South Korean President, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Minister of Defense to Egypt, as well as continuous interactions in various fields.

Ambassador Hong said that South Korea will continue to strengthen bilateral relations with Egypt in various fields such as science and technology, infrastructure, trade, investment, and most importantly, people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

He told Egypt Daily News that until a few years ago, it was difficult to imagine a South Korean Air Force aircraft flying over the pyramids. Today, however, eight Black Hawks teamed up with Silver Stars to perform an aerobatic display over the beautiful territory of Egypt. Facts have proved that the military cooperation between the two countries can take a big step forward at any time.

Hong noted that South Korea’s participation in EDEX 2021 and high-level personnel exchanges have created momentum for defense industry cooperation between the two countries.

“South Korea has advanced defense technology and is capable of manufacturing various high-tech defense equipment. In addition to the K-9 howitzer we agreed to jointly manufacture here in Egypt last February, South Korea is also trying to provide the T-50 attack trainer, K2 Panther tank, etc. It is difficult to predict what Egypt’s next equipment will be, but South Korea will always strive to be Egypt’s reliable defense industry partner,” he said.
