MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Tourism late Friday launched a website with announcements and advice on COVID-19.
It advised travelers to visit the website www.philippines.travel/safeph for regular updates, citing their safety as “extremely important” to the agency.
“We will also do our part to make sure it’s safer so it’s more fun to be in the Philippines. In response to the Philippine Tourism Congress’s call for a clear, unified message from the government, we’ll be uploading regular COVID-19 update bulletins,” said the Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said at a news conference last Wednesday.
The site provides updates on travel bans, flight advisories, the travel industry’s efforts during COVID-19, including protocols for airports, accredited hotels and resorts, and advice on how the public can avoid the spread of the deadly disease.
“The Philippine government is closely coordinating with its tourism industry stakeholders – including airlines, hotels and resorts, tour operators – to develop cascading guidelines to ensure that all precautionary measures are implemented to curb the spread of the virus in the country, ’ the website wrote.
It said it was implementing safety protocols and a range of precautionary measures set out by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health.

The travel agency also promotes habits to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The launch of the website comes after the Ministry of Health confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 in the country earlier on Friday.
One had previously traveled to Japan, which was hit by COVID-19, while the other had no travel history.
The Ministry of Health said it “could be considered a local case” for now as it was still verifying whether the case was a local transmission.
Two patients previously confirmed to have COVID-19 in the country have recovered, while one patient has died.
