The move follows South Korea’s decision last week to end COVID-19-related travel restrictions for Chinese citizens – rules that have sparked a sharp reaction and tit-for-tat measures from Beijing.
The Chinese embassy and other consulates in Seoul “will resume issuing short-term visas for South Korean citizens visiting China for business, transit and other private matters” starting Saturday, the Chinese embassy and other consulates in Seoul said on their official WeChat accounts.
Last month, China canceled visa-free transit for citizens of South Korea and Japan after Seoul and Tokyo imposed coronavirus measures on travelers from China, amid a spike in coronavirus cases in China.
Outbound travel from China has boomed after the government abruptly abandoned strict Covid policies, including mandatory quarantine for all arrivals.
