On Monday, February 28, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its travel advisory and changed Vietnam from Level 3 to Level 4: Very high level of COVID-19.
The new warning arrives days before March 15, when Vietnam to lift travel restrictions For international travelers. Vietnam will allow foreign tourists to travel freely after a day of quarantine and a negative COVID test result.
However, healthy U.S. authorities consider Vietnam a high-risk destination. The measure is linked to recent health reports on COVID-19 cases in Vietnam: The country is recording nearly 100,000 confirmed cases per day, a new high since the pandemic began.
On the other hand, Vietnamese authorities consider the death rate and hospitalization rate to be low. The country has very strict travel restrictions and the economy has been severely impacted due to a drastic reduction in the number of travelers.
Vietnam travel recommendation
Although the CDC’s main recommendation is to “Avoid traveling to Vietnam”Some advice is provided for those who decide to visit Asian countries.
These are the CDC’s main considerations:
- Get vaccinated against COVID-19 in time before travel.
- Follow the requirements and recommendations notified by Vietnam.
- Comply with airline requirements, including mask wearing, testing, quarantine and proof of vaccination.
- If you test positive, do not travel until 10 days after developing symptoms.
- Everyone over the age of 2 should wear a mask in indoor public places.
- Know that even if a traveler is vaccinated, the risk of getting and spreading COVID-19 is high.
Those who decide to visit this country must be aware of all risks and consider CDC recommendations to avoid this destination. US urged against visits to Vietnam and 139 other Tier 4 countries.
Vietnam prepares to reopen
Meanwhile, Vietnam eased entry restrictions. The country will welcome foreign tourists starting March 15 after authorities banned entry for international travel.
Travelers can now apply for a visitor visa, have mandatory health insurance — minimum coverage dropped from $20,000 to $10,000 — and present a negative COVID test before and after arrival. Tourists must wait for a negative result upon arrival before they can start visiting and exploring the site.
In 2021, there will be 40 million domestic tourists in Vietnam, compared with only 3,800 foreign tourists, and the tourism industry expects this number to increase significantly.
“This year, the industry aims to attract 65 million tourists, including 5 million foreign tourists,” said Nguyen Trung Khanh, head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
The tourism industry is preparing for newcomers and has been holding “Living Vietnam to the Fullest” camps to encourage foreign tourists to visit and promote Vietnamese culture.
